Has Something Like This Happened To You? If So, That's Great!

Dawn Ziegerer

It started off pleasant enough - I’m taking the dog out for his morning wizz. I know he’s a dog that rushes over to meet other dogs. So, my temporary insanity prevented me from firmly standing my ground and holding the leash tight. Oops.

I’m one lucky lady. I didn’t break a hip or land on concrete.

But I did land a great story idea.

Here’s the thing: You might tell me that you don’t have any good stories. But I’d say you’re just not looking in the right place.

I’d bet my third kid that you have done something embarrassing. And now you can turn that mortification into something valuable.

That fall? It’s more than just a clumsy moment; it’s a metaphor. I could use it as the bridge between my personal life and work. That fall could stand in for:

🐕 Staying adaptable in unpredictable situations

🐕 Not underestimating the power of something seemingly small

🐕 Failing and getting back up

Every awkward or funny moment has the potential to be a story that connects with a situation at work. Every audience understands awkward moments and they help us illustrate a point. A story like that makes a message stick.

So, what did you do that an audience at work will relate to? Believe me, we’d all love to hear it.

And if you need help figuring out how to tell great stories that motivate and inspire, hit me up.
